Nuance Upgrades Speech Recognition App for Smartphones and Tablets

­Nuance Communications has announced a significant update to Nina Mobile, the virtual assistant for mobile customer service -- by adding support for 38 languages and improvements for tablet users.

Nina Mobile allows companies to add speech-based virtual assistant capabilities to existing Apple iOS and Google Android mobile apps for use by self-service customer care. Nina combines Nuance speech recognition, Text-to-Speech (TTS), voice biometrics, and Natural Language Understanding (NLU) technology hosted in the cloud to deliver an interactive user experience that not only understands what is said, but also who is saying it.

With the new release, Nina now understands and speaks 38 languages, making it the first to support such a broad global language capability for speech recognition, TTS and voice biometrics. The new release also expands Nina's existing support for smartphones, to include enhanced support for tablets, including Apple iPad and iPad Mini, and Android tablets running Android 4.1.
