Australia's Telstra has posted a 1.7% rise in revenues of AU$12.7 billion (US$13.1 billion) for the six months to 31 December 2012, while net profits rose by 8.8% to AU$1.6 billion.

The company also confirmed guidance for fiscal 2013.

Chief Executive Officer David Thodey said: "These results show we are delivering on our commitments. We continue to see customer growth in key products and services, particularly mobiles. This is testament to our focus on improving customer service and maintaining network leadership."

The company added 607,000 net new mobile customers, taking its domestic customer base to 14.4 million, of which 1.5 million are using the LTE network -- while landline customers declined by 151,000 to 7.9 million.

The company's Hong Kong subsidiary added 321,000 customers to take its total to 3.8 million.

"Our strategy is unchanged and delivering results for customers and shareholders. We will continue to focus on improving customer satisfaction, growing customer numbers, simplifying the business and taking advantage of new growth opportunities. We are making good progress but there is more to do," Mr Thodey added.
