Bharti Airtel Buys Out Alcatel-Lucent from Joint-Venture

­India's Bharti Airtel has announced that it is buying out Alcatel-Lucent from their joint-venture in the country. The joint-venture manages Airtel's landline and broadband networks but was not due to expire in April 2014.

In a statement, Bharti Airtel said that the new company that it will solely own will operate independently of Airtel and will seek contracts with other operators.

Shishir Kumar, currently the CEO of Bharti Airtel Upper North has been named as CEO of the new company.

The company did not announce how much, if anything it had paid to buy out Alcatel-Lucent from the joint-venture.
