Motorola Working on High-End Android Smartphone: The X-Phone
Published on:
A strongly suggestive hint has been dropped that Google and Motorola are working on a high-end smartphone - the project named "X-Phone".
An advert was placed and swiftly removed that not only called for a senior director of product management at Motorola Mobility, it also named the X-Phone project as the project to be managed.
Motorola Mobility has been rumoured to be working on a deluxe smartphone for some months, with reports last year suggesting that a cutting edge model would be released early this year.
The new handset was even rumoured to be considering a flexible screen, until production difficulties apparently killed off that radical plan as being just a bit too radical.
For the X phone, an initiative being led by former Google product manager Lior Ron who worked on the Google Maps team, Motorola wanted top-notch features for the phone's camera and photo software, such as better color saturation and the ability to take panoramic shots, two people familiar with the situation told the Wall Street Journal last December.
The job advert for the Product Manager was placed on LinkedIn and spotted by Phandroid before being taken down by Motorola Mobility a few hours later.
Scanning the job advert also suggests that the post is for a range of X-Phone based products, adding fuel to previous suggestions that the smartphone could be followed by a tablet device.
