UAE Networks May Block BBM Voice Messaging Service

Research in Motion is in last ditch talks with UAE mobile networks over fears that the company could be barred from offering its own voice messaging service in the forthcoming BlackBerry 10 operating system.
BlackBerry Messenger allows voice calls to be made over VOIP when connected to a Wi-Fi hotspot, but the service worries some mobile networks who see it targetting their own voice call revenues.
RIM is reported to be in talks with the telecoms regulator to force the networks to permit the service, even if they are allowed to charge a monthly access fee for it.
"We would not want the U.A.E. to be seen as a restrictive case," a senior official at the regulator told the Wall Street Journal. The official however believes that a resolution ahead of BlackBerry's high profile product launch is unlikely.
Both Du and Etisalat declined to comment on the BBM Voice situation.
