London Underground to Test Wi-Fi Video Cameras for Maintenance Staff

The London Underground railway network says that it is investigating the possibility of fitting its trackside maintenance staff with Wi-Fi enabled video cameras.
The railway said that the aim of the head-mounted cameras for technical staff is so that live video can be beamed to relevant experts to support faster fault diagnosis and repair on signalling and train faults
The underground network has been deploying a consumer Wi-Fi network in association with Virgin Media which has been free for consumers to use until today - when fees will be charged except for Virgin customers, and following a network deal, customers on the Vodafone and EE mobile networks.
The company said at the time of its deployment that the network could be used for non-consumer services by London Underground systems, and the potential deployment of Wi-Fi enabled video cameras is one of the first such ideas.
Virgin Media has deployed Wi-Fi coverage in 103 stations and is expanding that to all stations on the network evenutally.
