Tropian and Agilent Demo Transmitters EDGE for Handsets
Published on:
Tropian and Agilent Technologies have announced that they will jointly demonstrate a complete RF transmitter solution for GSM/GPRS/EDGE handset applications at the 3GSM Congress today.
Tropian and Agilent have collaborated on providing a transmitter solution for multi-band multi-mode handsets for GSM, EDGE and TDMA carriers. This platform can be used for handsets providing GSM, GPRS, EDGE, and TDMA modulation formats in the 850MHz and 1900MHz bands for the Americas' TDMA/GSM carriers, and the 900MHz and 1800MHz bands for European and Asian carriers. The two companies will be jointly promoting the chip set solution.
"Wireless customers are showing strong enthusiasm for this power-efficient, simplified radio architecture," said Bryan Ingram, business unit manager for Agilent's Wireless Semiconductor Division. "A strong effort went into optimizing our E-pHEMT power amplifier with Tropian's TimeStar polar-loop modulator. By joining with Tropian, we were able to combine best-of-class technologies that will enable handset manufacturers to extend battery life, reduce parts count and size, and support multiple modulation formats with a single transmitter."
In addition to its recently-launched TimeStar multi-mode, multi-band RF chipset, Tropian will also demonstrate Polar Impact technology as applied to UMTS technology."
