Twitter Launches Mini-Video Service Called Vine

Published on:

Microblogging website, Twitter has launched a video feature that allows some of its users to embed short 6-second video clips into their message feed.

The company said that the brevity of videos were akin to the shortness of the Tweets, and "inspires creativity". They are also limited to Apple users.

The company made a brief announcement about the new service on its blog without explaining why it had developed the mini-video service or what it plans to do with it.

Some comments on Twitter have however raised issues with the way that the videos loop continuously and don't appear to have a stop button, which could be annoying on a Twitter account with a lot of videos on one page.

Twitter already supports embedding of YouTube videos in its Tweets when viewed on a website, and that works on any device, without the need to download an app.
