Apple Denies Reports of a Larger iPhone Screen
Published on:
Apple's CEO, Tim Cook has dismissed rumours that the company is working on a larger screen version of its iPhone handset.
During the financial results conference call, he said that the company had looked into the matter and decided to stick with its current options.
"The iPhone 5 screen offers a new four-inch retina display," Cook said. "It also provides a larger screen without sacrificing one-handed use. We put a lot of thought into screen sizes and we think we picked the right one." he told analysts.
A number of handset manufacturers are supplying larger screen handsets -- often nicknamed the phablet for sitting part way between a tablet and a smartphone -- and there has been speculation that Apple would have to respond to that consumer demand, even if only to preserve its market share.
How Apple plans to address that market is unclear, but the company did say that it has a full pipeline of products under development.
An Apple Phablet cannot be entirely ruled out - despite Tim Cook's denial.
