The Diameter Signaling Controller (DSC) market in 2012 grew more than ten fold versus 2011 according to Exact Ventures. The report indicates that the DSC market has strong potential for future growth based in large part on the expected growth in LTE subscriptions which comprised less than 1 percent of total worldwide mobile subscriptions at the end of 2012.
According to the report, as LTE subscriptions continue to ramp, service providers will need to add DSC capacity.
"As service providers continue to introduce sophisticated applications and data plans that require many different network nodes to continually exchange information with policy, subscriber databases, and billing systems, the DSC market will be vital and mission critical to operators for years to come," stated Greg Collins , Founder and Principal Analyst at Exact Ventures. "Interest from network operators in the form of RFIs and RFPs, many of which are requesting millions of transactions per second (Tps) of capacity, reinforce our expectations for DSC market growth," he added.
The market continues to be dominated by Tekelec followed by Acme Packet, Huawei, and F5 Networks. The report indicates that future competition in the DSC market will likely intensify as volumes continue to ramp and new vendors enter the market.
