Thailand's AIS Mulls Bid for Burmese Telecoms License

Thailand based mobile network, Advanced Info Service (AIS) has confirmed that it is considering bidding for one of the two telecoms licenses put up for tender by the Myanmar/Burmese government.
AIS's CEO, Wichian Mektrakarn said the company, through its parent InTouch Plc, plans to expand its telecom business in Myanmar, especially mobile infrastructure and telecom-related services.
AIS is majority controlled by the Singapore government through its Temasek Holdings investment arm and Singapore Telecom.
The Burmese government announced last week that it would issue the tender for the two telecoms licenses, with the intention that they should be issued by the end of this year.
