Samsung Adds NFC Support to UK Version of Galaxy S III Mini Smartphone

Published on:

Samsung UK has announced that it will launch a modified version of its Galaxy S III Mini smartphone in the UK - by adding support for NFC services.

The modification will make the handset compatible with the increasing number of retailers accepting contact less payments.

"NFC technology and the digital wallet started to gain significant traction in 2012, particularly in the run up to the Olympics," said Samsung UK's vice president, Simon Stanford. Samsung was a sponsor of the London 2012 Olympics and worked with Visa on contactless payment trials at the Olympic venues.

The modified model will also enable users to make use of Samsung's S Beam technology that allows compatible devices to share files simply by being placed next to each other.

Otherwise, the Android based smartphone is the same as its equivalent available in other countries. The original version went on sale last November.
