Google Tablet May Have Outsold Apple in Japan Last Quarter

Published on:

Google's Nexus 7 tablet outside Apple's iPad in Japan during the holiday season, according to analysis by a local research firm, BCN.

Based on a survey of 2,400 consumer electronics stores in Japan, Google's Nexus 7 tablet took 44.4 percent of the market versus Apple's iPad with 40.1 percent, according to the Nikkei newspaper.

Two factors may affect the report though. One is that there was a reported shortage of Apple products during the period.

More significantly though, BCN's figures do not include sales at Apple's own retail stores or its online sales, so the overall sales figures for the country as a whole are less clear.
