UK Network, EE to Close 10% of its Retail Stores

Published on:

The UK based mobile network, EE (formerly Everything Everywhere) is to close around 10% of its retail stores due to overlapping coverage resulting from the merger of its previous Orange and T-Mobile brands.

The company was formed from the merger of the UK arms of Orange and T-Mobile in 2009 but retained its dual brands until late last year when it finally decided to rebrand the entire company under the single EE identity.

The company has confirmed that it will close 78 of its roughly 700 stores following a review of the retail portfolio. The company inherited a chain of stores that are in some cases just a few doors from each other.

The company added that it is not expecting any shop sales staff redundancies as a result of the closures with staff being moved to the nearest alternative stores. However store managers in the closed stores may need to take alternative roles at their replacement locations.
