Qtel Outlines 2013 Network Upgrade Objectives

Published on:

Qatar's Qtel is set to boost mobile network coverage and performance in the country throughout 2013, it announced today.

The company said that it consistently benchmarks key factors such as call set-up, quality and coverage against some of the world's best operators and has identified some clear performance areas for the coming year.

The company is in the process of establishing dozens of new sites across the country, to further enhance call quality and network support.

Qtel is also investing in new technologies to improve indoor and outdoor coverage, including a DC-HSPA deployment to enhance 3G network capacity and an in-building solution to improve coverage in high-rise buildings in Qatar.

In addition, 2013 will be the year that Qtel launches LTE services.

With demand for data continuing to grow, Qtel customers are benefiting from its capacity enhancement and optimisation project, launched in 2012, which supports mobile data access throughout Qatar.

The improvements to the mobile network will be complemented by improvements to the fixed network - more than 30,000 customers currently enjoy the Qtel Fibre home broadband network, with Internet speeds that are at least 10 times faster than the current copper wire connection. Fibre solutions are also being deployed to enhance Wi-Fi hotspot access in homes and businesses across Qatar.
