Thai Networks to Increase Capacity of Number Portability Platform

Thailand's mobile networks have been instructed to hugely increase the capacity of their Mobile Number Portability systems in anticipation of changes to the market later this year.
Currently the networks have a limit of 4,000 number porting requests per day, but have been instructed to drop the limit and increase capacity based on customer demand.
A source at the telecoms regulator, the NBTC told The Nation newspaper that the mobile networks recently agreed to the request and will implement the upgrades by the end of April.
The change is in anticipation of the ending of the concessions operated by TrueMove and Digital Phone in September as well as the launch of 3G networks. Both changes are expected to lead to a sharp rise in network churn rates as customer switch networks.
In related news, the regulator is also negotiating a reduction in the mobile termination rate charged by the networks.
