Five Possible Bidders for Zambia's New Mobile Operator License
Published on:
Five companies have expressed an interest in setting up a mobile network in Zambia, the Minister of Communications and Transport Christopher Yaluma has confirmed.
The country plans to award a fourth mobile license by the end of this year and has been informally sounding out potential bidders before issuing the formal tender documents. Another hurdle is overturning a restriction of awarding new licenses before 2015 that was imposed by the previous government.
"As soon as that is done, we shall put an inquiry asking papers to express interest in investing in the country. We have made progress in preparing for the fourth mobile operator," the Minister told private radio, HOT FM.
The country currently has three mobile networks, MTN, Bharti Airtel and state-owned, Cell Z.
