Former Telekom Austria Manager Accused of Accepting Kickbacks

Published on:

A former Telekom Austria manager has been charged with accepting kick backs when he worked as the head of the company's retail marketing department up to 2008.

The accused, Stefan Tweraser is now Google's sales director in Germany.

It has been alleged that Tweraser was the beneficiary of a EUR585,600 (US$772,000) payment related to a sponsorship by Telekom Austria of the 2008 European Soccer Championship. He is claimed to have submitted fake invoices for services that were not provided by the marketing company, Euro RSCG which it is claimed had agreed to the payments.

Tweraser has now offered to repay the amount to mitigate the charges against him.

Three other people people charged in the case are Gustav Eder-Neuhauser, Albert Essenther und Robert Motalik, according to the court papers which have been seen by the Format newspaper. The other three are said to have known that the payments were bonus, but went ahead with them in case they lost the Telekom Austria marketing account.

Telekom Austria has been hit by a number of scandals in the past couple of years dealing with various allegations of shareprice manipulation and bribery by the management in the past.
