ZTE Working with European Network on Firefox Based Smartphone

ZTE is reportedly working with an unnamed European mobile network to offer a smartphone based on the Mozilla Firefox OS, and may secure an agreement in the USA, ZTE's USA boss, Cheng Lixin told Bloomberg News.
"We closely monitor the ecosystem and how it evolves," Cheng said. "If that is ready and if consumer studies support that data, then we may launch one in U.S. also this year."
Mobile networks are also known to be wary of the Apple/Android duopoly and are looking for at least one other major OS to compete, and the Nokia/Windows alliance hasn't really excited customers yet.
However, ZTE's Executive Vice President He Shiyou said last September that the new handset would be released by the end of last year. The reasons for the delay are not clear.
The most difficult task for the Mozilla team though wont be getting the software into handsets, but building up the mobile app market to encourage customers to buy the phones.
Deutsche Telekom, Etisalat, Smart, Sprint, Telecom Italia, Telefónica and Telenor have all announced support for the Firefox OS, while ZTE and TCL Communication Technology (under the Alcatel One Touch brand) will manufacture the first devices to feature the new OS, using Qualcomm's Snapdragon processors.
