Pakistan Suspends Cell Phone Service in 53 Cities, Districts

Pakistan January 3 suspended cell phone service in 53 cities and districts to prevent terrorist attacks on the eve of Chehlum, which honours the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain, media reported.
Cities and towns affected include Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Quetta, Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Multan, Sargodha, Bahawalpur, Hyderabad, Dera Ismail Khan and Bannu.
The move is one of several security measures being taken ahead of Chehlum. Some areas have also imposed bans on pillion riding (two people riding on a motorcycle).
