Apple Store Staff Attacked During New Year's Eve Burglary
Published on:
An Apple store in Paris, France was robbed of an estimated US$1.3 million of equipment after armed thieves forced their way inside through a staff entrance.
The burglary took place on New Year's Eve as masked robbers attacked a store cleaner as he was leaving the building through a rear staff exit a few hours after the store closed to customers.
The janitor was reported by local media to have been lightly injured during the attack, and a security guard was overpowered.
Reports vary on how many people were involved but it would seem that two people entered the store, while 3-4 waited outside.
It is not known yet quite what was stolen, but the value was put at around EUR1 million (US$1.3 million).
The thieves appear to have timed their attack to take advantage of a lower police presence in the area as many were drafted to the Champs-Elysees Avenue to cover the New Year's Eve celebrations.
