Brazilian Firm Selling Android Based iPhone Branded Smartphone

A Brazilian consumer electronics firm, Gradiente SA has started sales of its own iPhone branded smartphone after it won a court case securing ownership of the brandname in the country.
The Brazilian iPhone runs on the Android OS.
Gradiente originally registered the iPhone brandname in Brazil back in 2000, and this was expanded to include mobile phones in 2008, and crucially its application preceded Apple's.
The move to start selling an Android based iPhone is seen as a negotiating tactic though as it piles on the pressure for Apple to secure a commercial agreement to the brand name.
The smartphone model being sold under the iPhone brand is a fairly basic version of the Android smartphone, running the elderly 2.3 version of the OS. The phone sells for around US$300.
Gradiente has the exclusive rights to the iPhone brandname in Brazil until 2018.
Apple had to pay a fee to secure the brandname of its iPad in China after it faced lawsuits from the trademark owner, and chose to settle to conclude the matter quickly.
