Samsung Seeking Ban on Ericsson Products in USA

Published on:

Samsung Electronics has filed a request with the USA's International Trade Commission (ITC) seeking a ban on the import of Ericsson products into the USA.

The move is a counter-reaction to an earlier request by Ericsson to the ITC seeking an import ban on Samsung smartphones after licensing negotiations broke-down. Ericsson claimed at the time that Samsung was seeking a competitive advantage over its rivals by paying less for essential patents held by Ericsson.

Samsung counter-claims that Ericsson is unwilling to continue their negotiations and had been making "unreasonable demands" in its patent negotiations.

Samsung is citing seven patents that it claims Ericsson is violating.

Although Ericsson is targeting Samsung's sales of smartphones, a theoretical ban on Ericsson would involve its sales of base stations and infrastructure.
