Thailand's telecoms regulator the NBTC has voted to formally hand over the 3G licenses that were won in the recent auction and have been held up by ongoing legal challenges to the auction.
The three incumbent networks, AIS, Dtac and True Mobile won the licenses.
NBTC Committee Chairman Settapong Malisuwan told local media that the board had voted 4-1 to award the licenses. The move comes despite further legal attempts to block the license award, although it would seem that the regulator is confident that they are without a chance of succeeding.
The mobile networks took possession of the licenses last Friday, and they are valid for 15 years - until December 2027.
As a condition of securing the licenses, the networks will also be required to lower their tariffs by 15% before being allowed to launch their 3G services.
