USA based website, Yahoo says that it has been hit with a US$2.7 billion fine in Mexico, which it is now contesting.

In a brief statement, Yahoo said that the 49th Civil Court of the Federal District of Mexico City had entered a non-final judgment of US$2.7 billion against Yahoo and Yahoo de Mexico in a lawsuit brought by plaintiffs Worldwide Directories and Ideas Interactivas.

The plaintiffs alleged claims of breach of contract, breach of promise, and lost profits arising from contracts related to a yellow pages listings service.

Yahoo said that the claims are without merit and it will pursue all appeals with vigor.
