Nokia Seeking BlackBerry Sales Ban in UK, USA and Canada

Published on:

Nokia is seeking bans on sales of BlackBerry smartphones in the USA, UK and Canada following a dispute between the two companies over a Wi-Fi patent.

If the courts were to uphold Nokia's complaint, it would affect the entire BlackBerry product range.

Nokia took action two months after an arbitration ruling by the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce in Sweden found that Research in Motion had made use of Wi-Fi technology based on a Nokia patent which was not included in other patent licensing agreements.

Nokia is also pursuing the company in Germany over an unrelated dispute covering antenna and email technologies.

Research in Motion shares dropped sharply when Nokia confirmed it had launched legal action against the company.
