Moldova's Moldcell has launched LTE based 4G services for the very first time in the country, just a few weeks after being granted a license by the regulator.

"Moldcell's new 4G network stands out through its quality, clearly superior to other wireless technologies. The launch of 4G services will place Moldova among the most technologically advanced countries in the world, says Tero Kivisaari, President of business areas Eurasia and Mobility Services.

The company is a subsidiary of TeliaSonera.

Moldcell was established in October 1999 and began its commercial operations as the second GSM operator in Moldova on April 28, 2000, Moldcell's 2G network covers over 97% of Moldova's territory and population (excluding the Transnistria region).

Moldcell launched 3G services in 2009 - the first in Moldova and among the first in the Eurasia region, and as of Q3/2012 covers about 73% of the country's territory. In 2011, Moldcell finalized building the nation-wide fibre-optic backbone network.
