Telcel's LTE Network Based on Huawei Kit

Published on:

Huawei today announced it had partnered with Telcel to launch Mexico's first commercial LTE network.

The mobile network adopted Huawei's SingleRAN LTE solution to build a Heterogenous Network (HetNet), which will enhance network spectrum utilization and end-user data transfer speeds. During the launch ceremony, Huawei's Ascend P1 smartphone and Huawei's LTE broadband modem E397 device were also displayed.

As the largest subsidiary of America Movil, Telcel has a nearly 70% market share of the Mexican mobile market with nearly 70 million subscribers.

The launched commercial LTE services will cover nine cities, with plans to expand to 26 markets until the first quarter of next year to reach 65% of the country's population.

In a separate development, last week it was also announced that Ericsson had won a contract to expand Telcel's LTE network.
