Vodafone Australia to Cut 10% of its Workforce

Published on:

Vodafone Australia has announced that it is cutting a number of office jobs as it moves towards completing a wide-ranging network upgrade. Although the company did not say how many jobs are being cut, it is widely rumoured to be in the region of 500 of the company's 5,000 workforce.

Vodafone Australia CEO Bill Morrow also announced a series of initiatives designed to
ready Vodafone for the future.

Vodafone is nearing the completion of its first phase of a new network roll out and readying itself for the next steps. Actions this year include: increased network transmission speed and capacity with an internet ready IP architecture; faster radio technology with our Vodafone 3G+ (DC-HSPA+) protocols; and, the replacement of nearly all radio equipment.

However, Morrow cautioned that while there are signs of improvement, there is much more that needs to be done.

"We're not there yet, but we've come a long way over the past year - and now we're building for the future." he concluded.
