Samsung Saw Smartphone Sales Surge After iPhone Announcement
Published on:
Samsung claims that sales of its flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S3 rose just after Apple showed off its latest iPhone 5 model.
It's known that sales of high-end smartphones stagnated in the run up to the launch of Apple's new phone, but it would seem that the average consumer was less impressed than expected with the iPhone 5 and purchased the Samsung model instead.
Speaking to Cnet, Kevin Packingham, chief product officer of Samsung's U.S. mobile arm said that he was "shocked" by the numbers. "I thought: 'What the heck is going on here?"
However, he didn't spell out what the sales surge looked like in actual numbers.
Apple loyalists were unlikely to have been swayed though, with Apple also reporting strong sales in the opening weekends.
