Pakistan Suspends Cell Phone Service During Eid Prayers

Pakistan suspended cell phone service for four hours October 27 during the Eid prayers in major cities in order to avert any terror attack on the first day of Eid ul Adha.
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, following a directive from the Interior Ministry, switched off cell phone networks in 20 major cities and towns across the country from 6am to 10am, Geo News reported.
The government had received intelligence reports suggesting that there would attacks on the Eid congregations, similar to a mosque suicide bombing that occurred October 26 in Afghanistan, media reported.
The disconnected services affected Karachi, Hyderabad, Khairpur, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, Quetta, Mastung, Gwadar, Turbat, Naseerabad, Sibi, Peshawar, Mansehra, Buner, Chitral, Bajaur Mohmand, Gilgit and Skardu.
