Huawei Pulls Out of Microsoft OS Launch Event

Published on:

Yu Chengdong, the CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group has confirmed that he wont be at a major Microsoft event that will see the launch of its Windows Phone 8 operating system, citing the "Sino-US political and economic storm".

He made the brief comment on China's version of Twitter, Sina Weibo, adding that he hoped people would not be too surprised by the announcement.

Microsoft is due to launch the Windows 8 operating system for smartphones on the 29th October at a press event which would typically involve representatives from each of Microsoft's handset partners. As Huawei is developing a WP8 based smartphone, they were expected to be in attendance.

However, the ongoing fuss over a political report which advised US firms to avoid dealing with Huawei could distract attention from Microsoft if a Huawei representative appeared.

It's expected that Huawei will appear at Microsoft launches in other countries though, especially the UK, which has a more relaxed approach to the company than the USA.
