Wi-Fi Equipment Market Grows with 802.11N the Preferred Protocol

Cisco remains on the top spot of the enterprise Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN) equipment market with 36% of the world market share followed by ZTE and Aruba based on shipments.

Cisco has a dominating presence in North America and European markets, but is increasingly losing ground from close competition from ZTE in APAC, Latin America, and MEA. Aruba grabs the 3rd position by marginally beating HP Procurve with a stronger presence in North America and Europe with little or no presence in Asia and Latin American markets.

Adarsh Krishnan, senior analyst at ABI Research for TV, video and broadband comments, "Increasing bandwidth requirement continues to drive 802.11n (Dualband) wireless protocol while the market slowly starts to adopt its successor and more advanced 802.11ac protocol in the enterprise WLAN market."

In the Consumer/SOHO WLAN market segment TP-LINK dominates the equipment market, taking the lion's share of the APAC market and is becoming a growing presence in other regions. Netgear takes the 2nd spot with a strong market share in North America and Europe followed by D-Link. TP-LINK maintains its dominance in APAC, while it competes with ZTE and Technicolor who are rapidly increasing their market share in Latin America. As of the first half of 2012 ZTE continues to lose its market share to TP-Link and Technicolor in the region.

"Dual and triple play services from broadband Internet service providers continue to drive the residential gateway equipment market where Netgear continues to be the market leader worldwide," adds TV, video and broadband practice director, Sam Rosen.
