US House Intelligence Report into Huawei and ZTE Expected to Be Critical

Published on:

US politicians are preparing to publish a report into the activities of Huawei and ZTE, and it is likely to be critical of the two companies alleged links with the Chinese government.

The House Intelligence Committee is headed by Chairman Mike Rogers who has already expressed comments about the companies indicating that the report will not be favourable.

"If I were an American company today ... and you are looking at Huawei, I would find another vendor if you care about your intellectual property; if you care about your consumers' privacy and you care about the national security of the United States of America," Chairman Mike Rogers will CBS television, according to a pre-broadcast transcript.

The report is due to be published on Monday following hearings held in Washington last month.

Both Huawei and ZTE have struggled to secure contracts in the USA following regular political concerns about allegations that the companies have links to the Chinese government, and especially the army, and that they insert "back-doors" into their equipment to allow for Chinese spying.

Both companies have always denied the allegations, which have never been proven by analysis of the alleged products.

However, during the hearings into the two companies, their representatives were repeatedly criticized for giving what were described as vague and inconsistent answers to questions about their operations.
