Low-Cost Smartphones to Drive Taiwan Handset Shipments

Published on:

Taiwan based handset manufacturers are expected to see a rise in shipments in 2013 thanks to increasing sales of low-cost smartphones.

According to a report from Topology Research Institute (TRI), Taiwan's manufacturers will ship 94.5 million mobile phones next year, up 8.6 percent from the 87 million units estimated for this year.

The report expects that the rise in shipments will come from low-end smartphones (under US$150) from the likes of Lenovo, Nokia and Motorola Mobility.

On a global scale, mobile phone shipments are expected to reach 1.86 billion units in 2013, up 4.5 percent from 1.78 billion units in 2012 the report added.
