Nigerian Regulator Supports Police Raids on Sellers of Pre-Registered SIM Cards

­Nigerian police and the telecoms regulator have launched joint raids against SIM card resellers suspected of offering cards without checking the customer's identity first.

The raids on several retailers took place in Abuja.

Speaking to journalists, NCC's Head of Media and Public Affairs, Reuben Muoka, said: "The arrest is in continuation of the campaign to rid the streets of pre-registered SIM cards."

NCC's Head of Enforcement, Efosa Idehen said that the regulator is kicking off a nationwide campaign to rid the system of the fraudulent people who pre-register SIM cards and sell them to buyers.
