UK's WHSmiths Offers Free In-Store Wi-Fi Service
Published on:
UK based newspaper and magazine retailer, WHSmith has signed a deal with Wi-Fi provider The Cloud to offer free Wi-Fi access to customers in 603 of its high street stores across the UK.
Customers who connect to The Cloud in WHSmith retail stores will be presented with a WHSmith landing page before being able to load additional content.
Ian Sanders, group business development director, at WHSmith said: "We are always looking for ways to enhance our customers' shopping experience. The internet allows us to provide a lot of extra information that was previously unavailable in-store, for example in-depth book reviews, product lists or search functions. It's about bringing the high street and online together in a way that works for our customers - free Wi-Fi access does this."
In addition to allowing customers to access and browse the internet, the service will also be used for the Kobo eReader range available in store. The devices will be connected to The Cloud's Wi-Fi, enabling customers to fully preview all the features of each device, in store before they buy.
An estimated 4 million people every day pass through The Cloud network by visiting one of its partners.
