SK Hynix Welcomes Ruling That Rambus Destroyed Documents in Patent Lawsuit
Published on:
SK Hynix has said that it welcomes a court ruling that struck from a patent lawsuit any evidence supporting a Rambus royalty that is "in excess of a reasonable and non-discriminatory" amount.
US District Judge Ronald M. Whyte's ruled that Rambus spoliated evidence by engaging in "massive destructions of records" on three "shred days."
In a statement, SK Hynix said that the precise remedy for Rambus's conduct remains to be decided but yesterday's ruling substantially limits any royalties on Rambus's patents.
The ruling follows on from findings last year that concluded Rambus had destroyed documents relating to its patent lawsuit against South Korea's Hynix.
The US Appeals Court later vacated the earlier ruling that Hynix had infringed Rambus' DRAM patents and the associated US$397 million compensation.
