BlackBerry Outage Across Europe on Friday Morning

Published on:

BlackBerry services were knocked out across Europe this morning for several hours. Research In Motion (RIM) confirmed in a statement that a "service issue" had affected customers in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

It was not clear what the cause of the problem was, but it was cleared up after a couple of hours. The timing was unfortunate coming as it did on the same day that Apple's iPhone 5 is going on sale to the public.

The outage also appeared to have affected customers on only some networks, with reports on twitter and forums varying in the degree of the outage.

In a later statement, RIM said "Our apologies to any customers impacted by the BlackBerry service issue today. We can confirm that services have been restored and are now operating normally."
