Phone Services Disrupted Across Pakistan

Published on:

Mobile phone services across large parts of Pakistan have been shut-down today on the orders of the telecoms regulator following a request from the government.

Today marks a government approved day of protest against an anti-Islam film which has been banned in the country. There are concerns that the protests will be used by militants to stage attacks, so the ban on mobile phone services was ordered.

Although the full details have not been released, mobile phone services are expected to be suspended in 14 cities, including Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Quetta, Peshawar, Faisalabad, Jhang, Multan, Khanewal, Attock, Murree, Chakwal Chakri and Momin Kot and areas surrounding the diplomatic areas in Islamabad

The shut-down is expected to last until 6pm today.
