Samsung Fails to Overturn Sales Ban on Galaxy Tablet in the USA

Samsung has failed to overturn a temporary ban on sales of its Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet in the USA after a California judge rejected the company's appeal.
The sale ban was secured by Apple earlier this year after it accused the company of copying its iPad tablet. However, the Jury in the billion dollar lawsuit between the two companies rejected that part of Apple's wide-ranging claims against Samsung.
Samsung asked US District Judge Lucy Koh to revoke the ban, but she rejected the request because Samsung is appealing to a higher court against the earlier sales ban and procedurally, that appeal has to be heard first.
She wrote in her ruling that she would have lifted the ban, but as Samsung has already filed the case with a higher court, it is now for them to make the decision.
"We are disappointed by the court's decision. We will continue to take all appropriate measures to ensure consumer access to our innovative products," Samsung said in a statement.
In related news, Apple is to ask the Judge to review the award of just over US$1 billion for patent infringements, and wants it tripled based on what it said was Samsung's "willful" infringements of its patents, as opposed to accidental.
