Vodafone TV Advert Leads to Customer Being Flooded with Text Messages

Published on:

Vodafone New Zealand has had to cancel an advertising campaign after two of its customers were bombarded with unexpected text messages.

The television adverts featured a popular actor boasting about how many text messages he had in his monthly tariff and invited viewers to send him a text message.

However, the phone number displayed was a normal number, and a customer, Cara Selway started being bombarded by text messages from people who typed in the phone number incorrectly.

Vodafone changed the phone number on the TV advert, which then resulted in the same thing happening again for a different customer, Maha Nicholson.

Vodafone has now pulled the advert, and offered compensation to the customers. The company hopes to run the advert later this week, with a phone number that cannot be mistaken.
