Vodafone Settles Irish Complaints About Unsolicited Phone Calls

Published on:

Vodafone Ireland has agreed to pay EUR40,000 to a number of Irish charities to settle an investigation into outstanding unsolicited marketing communications cases.

Ireland's Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (DPC) confirmed the settlement agreement earlier today with the mobile network operator. The DPC added that Vodafone has cooperated fully and, as a result of this agreement, is prepared to close these cases.

Vodafone, in recognition of these procedural failures has agreed to make a contribution totalling €40,000 to be shared among a number of Irish registered charities. Vodafone is also making goodwill gestures to each complainant directly.

In order to ensure that these errors do not reoccur, Vodafone has put in place additional controls internally and with third party sales agents to ensure that customer preferences are accurately recorded without delay.

It has also taken steps to ensure that its agents refrain from engaging in marketing in phone calls made for account management purposes to customers who have opted out of marketing contacts.
