Optus Expands LTE to Melbourne - Upgrades 3G Network
Published on:
Australia's Optus has launched its LTE network in Melbourne, as well as a large scale 3G enhancement programme across more than 700 mobile sites in the metropolitan area.
Today's launch in Melbourne follows Optus' initial switch on of 4G in April in the Greater Newcastle region, as well as turning on 4G in Sydney and Perth earlier this month.
The Optus 4G network has the largest 4G footprint in the Melbourne metropolitan area, stretching approximately 10km from the CBD -- from Mt Waverly in the east to St Albans in the west, and from Hampton in the south to Campbellfield in the north.
The expanded Optus 3G network now covers 99 per cent of the Victorian population. To deliver even better network consistency, 3G data speeds and broader coverage for Victorian customers, Optus will roll out more than 150 additional mobile sites across the state within the next two years.
