Investigation into Collusion Allegations Against Italian Mobile Networks

­Italy's anti-trust authority has confirmed that it has launched a probe into allegations that the country's three largest mobile networks colluded to block the launch of an MVNO.

It has been alleged that Telecom Italia, Vodafone and Wind agreed to work together to block the launch of Bip Mobile as an MVNO service.

Bip Mobile is due to launch services as a low-cost carrier llater this month and will operate over the Hutchison 3G network. The company has set itself a target of 5 million customers within four years.

Bip Mobile made the complaint about collusion and said that several distributors who work with the mobile networks had refused to carry its products following pressure from the network operators.

The three mobile networks denied the allegations. Vodafone also threatened legal action against companies who made statements about the case that it considered detrimental to its reputation.
