AT&T Seeking to Purchase Additional Radio Spectrum

Published on:

USA based AT&T has filed an application with the telecoms regulator seeking authorisation for a radio spectrum purchase from CenturyTel Broadband Wireless.

AT&T is seeking to aquire 51 Lower 700 MHz Band B Block licenses, four Lower 700 MHz Band C Block licenses, and six Advanced Wireless Service ("AWS-1") licenses.

According to the regulatory filing, the applicants state that the additional spectrum will enable AT&T to increase its system capacity and spectral efficiency in the areas being acquired, particularly for LTE services, and to meet growing consumer demand for mobile broadband wireless services in 54 Cellular Market Areas (CMAs) located in 14 states throughout the USA.

Preliminary review of the application indicates that post-transaction, AT&T would hold, in total, 33-143 megahertz of spectrum. In addition, in 25 of the CMAs that are the subject of this application, AT&T would hold, post-transaction, a maximum of 55 megahertz of spectrum below 1 GHz.

Objections to the transaction have to be filed with the FCC by the 25th September.
