Ingenico Enables NFC Mobile Payment Pilot in the Czech Republic

Published on:

French NFC vendor, Ingenico says that it has been selected as supplier of payment terminals for the launch of NFC based mobile payments in the Czech Republic, in partnership with Telefonica, Visa Europe, Komercni Banka and Samsung.

Telefonica is currently running a promotion encouraging its customers to exchange of their classic SIM cards for special SIM cards supporting the NFC technology, with a prepaid credit of CZK 250 (circa €10). This enables to try out mobile payments immediately in the O2 stores, or at any point of sale in the Czech Republic where contactless payment is made available.

For this project, Ingenico has supplied its contactless iWL 220 terminals, which follows on from trials with the Globus retail chain in the country at the end of last year.
