Google Launches an Official YouTube App for Apple's iPhone
Published on:
Google has launched a replacement mobile app to watch YouTube videos on Apple devices, shortly after it was announced that the next version of the iPhone OS would not support YouTube video playback.
Apple had said that it had removed the app from the updated version of the smartphone OS because its licence to produce the program had expired. The Apple developed YouTube app has been available on all versions of the iPhone since its launch in 2007.
The new app is said to have improved search functionality and more ways to share videos with friends.
The company added in a blog post that it is working on an optimized version of the YouTube app for iPad in the coming months.
Google's YouTube app for iPhones is available on the iTunes service from today.
Now that it has its own official app, Google should also gain more control over embedding adverts into the service, but will also be reliant on Apple's famously twitchy app approvals process.
