Nigerian Police Step Up Protection for Mobile Base Stations

Published on:

Nigeria's state police have been instructed to set up teams to focus on protecting mobile network base stations following a spate of attacks last week by a terrorist group.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar issed the order which also requires that base stations are given 24 hour protection. However, the number of base stations compared to the size of the police force would make that almost impossible.

The police and military have also said that the terrorist group, Boko Haram should stop blaming mobile phone companies for their recent losses. The group has suffered several set-backs and claimed that their location was being monitored by mobile phones.

The security forces without elaborating dropped strong hints that the group should look inwards to understand recent deaths of its leaders.
