Vodafone Australia Suffers Major Network Failure

Published on:

Vodafone Australia has suffered a serious network failure over the weekend in the New South Wales area.

In a statement on its support website, the company confirmed that the network crashed at 1:22pm on Sunday and took until 9:50pm to fully restore. The company said that some customers may have experienced problems with both GSM and 3G services.

However, local media reported that calls to the customer care team were taking upwards of half an hour to be answered due to the flood of complaints, and the call centre closed at 6:30pm, leaving customers relying on Twitter and Facebook for information.

The network failure is an embarrassment for the company as it had said that upgrades should help prevent a recurrence of the problems that badly damaged customer confidence in the service in 2010.
